Prophet Nathan was a revered prophet of God during the reigns of King David and King Solomon in ancient Israel. He played a crucial role as a spiritual advisor and messenger of divine will. Nathan is best known for boldly confronting King David after his sin with Bathsheba, delivering God’s rebuke through a parable that led David to repentance (2 Samuel 12:1–15).
He also conveyed God’s covenantal promise to David—that his throne and kingdom would be established forever (2 Samuel 7:12–16), a prophecy fulfilled in the coming of the Messiah. Later, Nathan supported Solomon’s rightful succession to the throne.
In Christian tradition, Prophet Nathan is honored as a model of courage, truth, and faithfulness to God’s word. His feast is commemorated in both the Orthodox and Catholic calendars, and he is often depicted in icons holding a scroll inscribed with the prophecy: “I will establish the throne of His kingdom forever.”
