Saint Genevieve was born in the village of Nanterre, west of Paris in Gaul (modern France), about the year 420. When she was eight years old, she expressed to Saint Germanus of Auxerre her desire to consecrate her virginity to the Lord. About the age of 15, she entered into the monastic life in Paris.
As she received the divine energies of God, she received the gifts of clairvoyance and miracle-working. She became well-known throughout the region for her spirituality. When Attila the Hun invaded Gaul, Genevieve bid the entire city of Paris to pray. Miraculously, the Huns turned away from Paris and went in another direction.
The saint was a strong advocate for keeping long vigils in prayer, and for fasting. She reposed in peace about the year 510. Her feast is celebrated on February 3.
