Saint John of Kalivitis, poor through Christ, lived in the middle of the 5th AD. century (according to others he was born in Constantinople at the beginning of the 5th century AD) and was the son of Eutropius, senator in office, and Theodora.
John did not want to follow in the footsteps of his two older brothers, who held glorious positions and preferred to dedicate themselves to the service of the faith. But because his parents insisted, he left his paternal home and went to the monastery of Akomiton where he became a monk.
When he was informed of his mother's great bitterness because his father was narrating a secular life, he decided, with the consent of the abbot of the monastery, to return to his parents. He introduced himself to his parents as an unknown monk. They did not know him. But the kindness of his physiognomy and speech was so great that they begged him to come home daily. He agreed with the agreement to build a hut in the backyard of his paternal home. There John set up his residence, and within three years he managed, by the grace of God, to bring his parents on the right path.
On the day he revealed that he was their son, God received his blessed soul.
